Her ex-spouse, businessman Nurdian Cuaca, is an Indonesian multi-millionaire. The 36-year-old, whose maiden name is Jamie Chua Xin Yin, was a stewardess in Singapore Airlines before getting married to her 44-year-old husband. The couple spent 15 years together as husband and wife before filing for divorce in court last year. They had two children together during the course of their marriage. The estranged couple failed to show any strong reason for the divorce in court. According to online sources, it seems they just wanted to get rid of each other because their love had ended.

Nurdian Cuaca owns two houses in Sentosa Cove and Hong Kong, shares in a private company, a wine collection and three expensive cars – a Ferrari, a Porsche and a Lamborghini. The total value of the company shares stand at $79.2 million while the two homes are worth $14.6 million. Jamie Chua has filed a petition in court and has successfully frozen her former husband’s $93m assets. Madam Chua is seeking $450,000 in monthly maintenance from Mr Cuaca, who is apparently not ready to give up his money to his ex wife. He is appealing against the decision in court. His appeal will be given a verdict by the High Courts next month.

Getting into hot water with Interpol

Nurdian Cuaca, is reportedly on the Interpol list for fraud charges. However, a statement released yesterday to The Straits Times by Mr Cuaca’s lawyer cited that Mr Cuaca is “unaware of any valid basis for the Interpol Red Notice, which appears to have originated from a source from Jakarta”.

The lawyer added that the 45-year-old businessman had traveled freely from Singapore to Indonesia and other countries since November.

According to the Interpol website, a Red Notice is a “warrant to be circulated worldwide with the request that the wanted person be arrested with a view to extradition.”

Jamie Chua’s Struggle

Jamie Chua, who is frequently spotted at high society events in Singapore has been further thrown in the spotlight with the divorce battle. Mr Cuaca’s actions haven’t made it any easier either.

Her lawyers had applied for an asset freeze and interim maintenance order because Mr Cuaca had reduced her monthly maintenance amount and canceled her supplementary card.

In explaining the decision to freeze Mr Cuaca’s assets, the judge said the latter was found to have transferred $3.2 million from a bank here to Indonesia.

Mr Cuaca had claimed this was funds belonging to his sister, Miss Risna.

However, the judge wrote that there was strong evidence that the removal of the amount was to shrink the matrimonial assets that would be divided by the courts.

Given the circumstances, the judge said the withdrawal of that $3.2million “was not legitimate and was not justified.”

In addition, he had also attempted on two occasions to dispose of his wine collection in their matrimonial home, and shut down the couple’s shoe business, Cloud 9 Lifestyle.

A pre-trial conference on the divorce suit will be held in the Family Court tomorrow.

Rice noodles prompt latest China food scare

BEIJING (AFP) - – Large amounts of rice noodles made with rotten grain and potentially carcinogenic additives are being sold in south China, state press said Friday, in the country's latest food safety scare.

Up to 50 factories in south China's Dongguan city near Hong Kong are producing about 500,000 kilogrammes (1.1 million pounds) of tainted rice noodles a day using stale and mouldy grain, the Beijing Youth Daily said.

The cost-conscious producers were bleaching the rotting rice and using additives including sulphur dioxide and other substances that could cause cancer to stretch one pound (half a kilogramme) of grain into three pounds of noodles, it said.

The poor-quality rice had often been reserved for animal feed before food prices began rising dramatically in China in the latter half of 2010, the paper said, citing wholesalers.

Rice noodles, often fried and served with bits of meat and vegetables, are a favorite in south China.

In recent weeks, a series of tainted food incidents have been reported in the state media as China gears up for New Year and Lunar New Year celebrations -- a time when food and alcohol purchases traditionally increase.

Tainted red wine, bleached mushrooms, fake tofu and dyed oranges have all surfaced on store shelves -- spooking consumers still wary about food quality after a deadly scandal erupted two years ago over contaminated milk powder.

In Dongguan, a random inspection of 35 rice noodle factories in early December revealed that only five of them were making products that were up to standard, the report said.

The paper did not say what action the government would take against the manufacturers. But the food processing methods used to make the tainted noodles were spreading to other regions as an accepted way to cut costs, it said.

Most of the rice noodles were sold to canteens in thousands of factories in Dongguan, located in China's export-oriented industrial heartland, while about 10 percent were on sale in city markets, it said.

The Chinese government has come under increasing pressure from its citizens as well as foreign countries to improve the standard of its food and medicines.

Malaysians gamble ‘S$3 million daily at S’pore casinos’

The Malaysian authorities are concerned with the influx of Malaysians to S'pore integrated resorts,gambling away S$3 million daily.

I have 2 suggestions here. The Malaysian could open at a casino somewhere in Johore and compete with Singapore. Unlike Singapore they could allow Singaporeans to gamble in Johore without imposing a levy. I am sure many Singaporeans will be in favour of this move.
The other alternative is to make Singapore impose the S$100 levy on Malaysian entering the casinos in Singapore.

A Muslim man in Egypt killed his wife and then buried her with their infant baby and 8-year old daughter. The girls? were buried alive!

He then reported to the police that an uncle killed the kids. 15 days later, another family member died. When they went to bury him, they found the 2 little girls under the sand - ALIVE!

The country is outraged over the incident, and the man will be executed.

The older girl was asked how she had survived. "A man wearing shiny white clothes, with bleeding wounds in his hands, came every day to feed us. He woke up my mom so she could nurse my sister," she said.

She was interviewed on Egyptian national TV, by a veiled Muslim woman news anchor. She said on public TV, "This was none other than Jesus, because nobody else does things like this!"

Muslims believe Isa (Jesus) would do this, but the wounds mean He really was crucified, and it's clear also that He is alive! But, it's also clear that the child could not make up a story like this, and there is no way these children could have survived without a true miracle. Muslim leaders are going to have a hard time to figure out what? to do with this, and the popularity of the movie Passion doesn't help!

With Egypt at the centre of the media and education in the Middle East, you can be sure this story will spread. Christ is still turning the world upside down!

I read with sympathy the suffering of MP Seng Han Tong who was set on fire by a man in Singapore. Thank goodness Mr.Seng is discharged from the hospital after a long stay where he received skin grafting and treatment for severe burnt.
It is also a pity to hear netizens criticising MP Seng instead of sympathising with him.
No matter what happen, no one has the right to harm anyone let alone almost burned MP Seng to death. The authority must take stern actions against such culprits.
Another one threatened another MP with harm. This case warrant strong actions to be taken against the alleged culprit.
In our society, all those who resort to force and bodily harm against anyone must be dealt with severely. We,in Singapore must not tolerate gangsterism,hooliganism,bullies etc etc....

Former opposition MP JB Jeyaretnam dies of heart failure

SINGAPORE: Former opposition MP and former Secretary—General of the Workers’ Party, Mr JB Jeyaretnam died of heart failure early Tuesday.

He was 82—years—old.

His son Mr Kenneth Jeyaretnam told Channel NewsAsia that Mr Jeyaretnam, who had a pre—existing heart condition, had complained of breathing difficulties at about 1.30am on Tuesday.

He was rushed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital but doctors were unable to revive him.

He died of heart failure with both his sons, Kenneth and Philip, by his side.

A lawyer, Joshua Benjamin Jeyaretnam was the first opposition member to win a Parliamentary seat in 15 years when he defeated the People’s Action Party’s (PAP) Pang Kim Hin and the United People’s Front’s Harbans Singh in the Anson By—Election in 1981.

He retained the seat in the 1984 General Election, but had to vacate it in 1986 after he was convicted on charges of mis—stating his party’s accounts.

Barred subsequently from standing for office, Mr Jeyaretnam returned to Parliament following the 1997 General Election.

That year, he was part of a 5—member team from the Workers’ Party who contested in Cheng San Group Representation Constituency (GRC), and garnered 45.18 per cent of the votes against the PAP’s 54.82 per cent.

A Non—Constituency MP seat was offered to the Workers’ Party for turning in the highest votes by an opposition party, and this was taken up by Mr Jeyaretnam.

In the late 1980s and 1990s, the fiery opposition member faced several defamation lawsuits brought against him by PAP leaders, among them Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew and Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong.

In 2001, Mr Jeyeratnam was declared a bankrupt and disbarred as a lawyer.

As a bankrupt, he was also barred from taking part in the General Election held that year.

Later, in October 2001 he left the Workers’ Party he had led since 1971.

After he was discharged as a bankrupt in 2008, a new political party, the Reform Party was formed in July by the 82 year old.

Mr Jeyaretnam leaves behind two sons.

The family later said in a statement that the family is overwhelmed with grief and we will make further announcements after the necessary arrangements have been made.

According to the statment from both his sons, Mr Jeyaretnam had spent his last hours at the Evelyn Road apartment of his son Kenneth.

"Earlier this evening he and I had enjoyed a light dinner and chatted and then he sat out on the balcony for a while before retiring."

The statement went on to say that the family was woken up at about 1:30am by Mr Jeyaretnam who was "obviously in distress" and was rushed to hospital.

"But unfortunately the medical team working on him were unable to revive him despite their lengthy and strenuous attempts. My brother Philip joined me at the hospital and we were then informed by the doctor in charge of his care that he had passed away" said the family in their statment which also gave thanks the medical team

Anwar Ibrahim the opposition defacto leader of Malaysia has been arrested yesterday,spent the night in a police lock-up and released on bail this morning. He was arrested in a most thrilling style.
As he,Anwar entered the neighborhood of his home yesterday, a contingent of ten police cars, half unmarked and half patrol, forced the two cars in Anwar Ibrahim’s entourage to stop. There was a contingent of 20 balaklava-clad masked commandos (UTK) who accosted him, reminiscent of the forces sent to arrest Anwar Ibrahim at his home in September 1998.
Anwar is being investigated for a sodomy charge,filed by his 23 year old aide,reminiscent of the 1998 case which put him behind bars for several years.
Anwar insists that the charge was a conspiracy of the ruling party leaders to nap him before he could topple them in the next month or two.
Anwar is now out on bail and is going to give a press conference in less than an hour from now from his home in Kuala Lumpur.
The trend in the Malaysian political scene is an opposition member is charged with "sodomy", a crime that could put the "guilty" party in prison for up to 20 years and out of political action. Malaysia earns S$11,435,551,385 ( S$ 11.5 billion) a day.

Roughly Malaysia produces 650,000 barrels of crude per day. We consume 400,000 barrels leaving 250,000 barrels to be exported.

Three years ago the selling price of crude was about USD30 per barrel. Today it is USD130 – an increase of USD100. There is hardly any increase in the production cost so that the extra USD100 can be considered as pure profit.

Our 250,000 barrels of export should earn us 250,000 x 100 x 365 x 3 = RM27,375,000,000 (twenty seven billion Ringgit).

But Petronas made a profit of well over RM70 billion, all of which belong to the Government.

By all accounts the Government is flushed with money.

But besides petrol the prices of palm oil, rubber and tin have also increased by about 400 per cent. Plantation companies and banks now earn as much as RM3 billion in profits each. Taxes paid by them must have also increased greatly.

I feel sure that maintaining the subsidy and gradually decreasing it would not hurt the Government finances.

In the medium term ways and means must be found to reduce wasteful consumption and increase income. We may not be able to fix the minimum wage at a high level but certainly we can improve the minimum wage.

Actually our wages are high compared to some of our neighbours. The investors who come here are attracted not by cheap labour but by other factors, among which is the attitude of the Government towards the business community and the investors in particular.

From what I hear business friendliness is wanting in the present Government – so much so that even Malaysians are investing in other countries. There are rumblings about political affiliations influencing decisions. Generally Government politicians are said to be arrogant.

Malaysia is short of manpower. The labour intensive industries are not benefiting Malaysians. Foreign workers are remitting huge sums of money home.

The industrial policy must change so that high tech is promoted in order to give Malaysians higher wages to cope with rising costs of living.

The world is facing economic turmoil due to the depreciation of the US Dollar, the sub-prime loan crisis, rising oil and raw material prices, food shortages and the continued activities of the greedy hedge funds. The possibility of a US recession is real. In a way the US is already in recession. The world economy will be dragged down by it.

Malaysia will be affected by all these problems. I wonder whether the Government is prepared for this.

We cannot avoid all the negative effects but there must be ways to mitigate against them and to lessen the burden that must be borne by all Malaysians. I am sure the Government will not just pass all these problems to the people as the review of oil prices every month seem to suggest.

In Videotape, Ousted Deputy Blasts Mahathir For Corruption

KUALA LUMPUR: In a videotape that was recorded before his arrest and broadcast throughout East Asia on Thursday, Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysia's ousted deputy prime minister, leveled broad allegations of corruption against Prime Minister Mahathir bin Mohamad.

Mr. Mahathir swiftly responded, telling journalists he was powerless to prevent the news media from telling "lies."

The dramatic videotape of Mr. Anwar, sitting next to his wife, Azizah, was apparently recorded Sunday, the same day a Malaysian commando unit stormed Mr. Anwar's house and took him to jail amid allegations of sedition and sodomy.

On the tape, Mr. Anwar said he had been dismissed because Mr. Mahathir and his "cronies" feared that Mr. Anwar would not protect their interests once the prime minister left office. And he tells his children that the sex allegations are "vicious lies."

Foreign workers in S'pore

I am in support of the govt bringing in foreign workers to do menial jobs. From experience I had, the younger China workers for example would do a better job than our aunties and uncles. The China workers are more efficient and hungry for the jobs like cleaners,sweepers,hawkers' assistants,dish washers etc etc. Malaysians aren't too bad either compared to our local workers.

Take for example, I had this 50 something local aunty,a cashier in one of the departmental stores,telling me that bulb that I bought could not be tested because the tester has been unserviceable. I insisted she tested the bulb that I intended to buy. She reluctantly complied and hey presto! the tester worked! Then she gave all kinds of grandmother excuses for not wanting to test for me.

From the cleaners of public toilets to waiters/waitresses in eateries, the local workers fared badly. They are not only old and slow but unfriendly and at times grumpy too.

Local old uncle bus drivers are as bad too. Unsmiling and impatient at times,would make your bus rides as uncomfortable as possible by suddenly applying brakes or drive the bus in a jerky manner.

On the other hand,the foreing bus drivers are polite and a few had greeted me when I boarded the buses. They smile at passengers when they first boarded the bus and also very helpful with parents with children and babies.

Ahhh, why complain that our jobs are going to the foreingers? Without them most of us would lead a miserable life experiencing poor standard of service all the time.

only you can see the effects of his foolishness when the ringgit has
halved its value overnight and your economy goes kaput. Single
handedly you have caused hardship to millions of your own people. You

The telecoms tower in Kuala Lumpur and the highest building in the
world show how stupid you are. Not only does it cause massive traffic
jam, it has totally no purpose. If you need high ground for telecoms
antennae a nearby mountain is there for free. This tower has no
purpose from the ground up to 300 metres. The satelites make this
totally unneccesary.

A fool and his money are soon parted. The only thing is you are the
fool and the money belongs to Malaysians. You make 20% in evey
project, you have real estate in Japan and billions of shares
corruptly acquired. Your 3 sons are worth 8 billion US$. Where do
they get this money? Of course, corruption. You are known as the
Marcos of Malaysia, having enriched yourself to the tune of billions.
You dare to shed crocodile tears during UMNO delegates meeting about
the ills of corruption. Yet you are the most corrupt of all the prime
ministers before you. A thief is crying thief and hopes people look
the other way. Who dares to say anything when the chief is caught
with his hands in the candy jar?

You said wisdom is not the monopoly of the West. So is foolishness.
You have more foolishness than most people would believe. Billions
are used to build two high rise Petronas buildings that benefit
nobody. It now stand tall, a symbol of stupidity and irresponsibility
Instead they just add on to traffic jam. What is this reclamation of
10 islands off Kedah? Totally absurb and stupid. Of course your
benefit is 20%. And the bridge across from Malacca to Sumatra across
international waters? Why not build a bridge to the moon? I am sure
you still can get your 20%.

You called me a Moron. How can a Moron make so much money. By
allowing short selling and borrowing millions of shares from your
banks we fund managers made millions out of your inexperience and poor
regulations. You lose all Malaysians money, therefore you are the
Moron. Now you know too late and start crying over split milk. In
Australia you are known as the recalcitrant ego maniac; in UK the
corrupt bastard because of your stupid purchase of our movie studio
and the 290 million ringgit Lotus racing car plant and the shady
Pergau dam loans from the UK. They are useless to us and you still
want to buy them. What about buying British reject submarines through
your agent, of course. The agent/ broker is designed to make millions
out of Malaysian government. Your purchase of our battleships is at
least 50% more than others are paying. Your purchase of 9 hospitals
from UK lock, stock and barrel does not support your local architects
or your industry and the British send you obsolete medical equipment.
The design is atrocious, one end to the other is half a kilometer and
there is no CT-scan, an absolute necessity. In the Uk your face
appears in no less than 17 newspapers as a corrupt dictator. In
Malaysia you are known as the (IBM) International Big Mouth. In Japan
they call him the ’smallest one’ (brain size). In Pacific island the
Santa Claus (giving advice left and right). In south America they call
him the parrot (he talks a lot but does not know what it is about). In
Manila the living Marcos.

In Malaysia they are spending millions to lure tourists and you talk
rubbish scaring every foreigner away. “When he is dumb he is doubted

While I agree the West does not have the monopoly to wisdom, your
actions are not the wisest either. Your EAEC has totally no support
even in Asean. Your South-South dialogue mets with the same fate and
what is this I hear of the Bridge from Malaysia to Indonesia covering
20 miles across International shipping lanes? How crazy can one get?
Even the Japanese don’t have the money. This world’s stupidity seems
to be concerntrated in one man’s mind - yours.

concept because we Americans, would have thought of it light years

businessman. He is worth a few billions. Unfortunately he was caught
with a few millions pocket money in Australia.Every Chief minister is
awarding useless projects to his cronies then collecting secret pay
offs on the side.The Land development Boards and the Economic
Development Boards are used to bailout any loses suffered by
politicians.The profits they keep, the loses they force the Government
bodies to absorb.How can your poor ever close the gap when every good
deal is snatched by your politicians?How can your country get out of
poverty if all the billions of corruption money is taken out of the
country?

Look at the Sarawak Chief Minister selling billions worth of timber
concessions under the table; selling every piece of state land to
businessman without tender; using his own companies to obtain
lucrative government contracts; selling approval signatures for a fee
‘you pay I approve’. He has 8 billion US stashes overseas. Thousands
of acres of land are given to one or two companies while thousands of
poor people still live in cardboard makeshift homes; have no water and
shit into the river. Thousands of acres of land are sold to companies
for plantations while the native don’t have even one acre to their
name. He is selling sand near the beaches to one company for earth
filling and then ask the government to spend millions to protect the
coastline when erosion occurs. He lost 300 millions of the sarawak
government money trying to make computer chips. He has built a port in
Northern sarawak town in water so shallow it needs dredging every year.

The Prime Minister built highways without tender, your cronies get the
deal and the price double. Your Langkawi airport runway is built is
double the cost by your own company Ekran.

The Malaysian nation has lost at least 30 billions during your last
10 years of corrupt rule. One billions lost from the purchase of
phantom skyhawk war planes nobody has ever seen (are they still in the
Nevada desert USA?). 3 billion lost from the London tin scandal (you
thought you could corner the London tin market without knowing the
Americans have a stockpile! Stupidity at its best. 6 billion Perwaja
steel mill where nobody even know where the money goes, 3 billion bank
Bumiputra scandal where George Tan bribed all the bank officials to
lend him the money. 6 billion forex lost by Bank Negara (the fool and
his money are soon parted) and 6 billion to build three of the worlds
tallest buildings (built by Japanese and Koreans and furniture
imported from France - not Malaysia) and 1 billion lost from purchase
of British warship including fees paid to the broker and under the
table. Add the 10 billion you stole and 5 billion taken by Ministers.

In the 1997 the World Journalists meeting voted Dr Mahathir the Prime
Minister of the Decade. It sounded strange to everybody until it was
revealed those who voted against are threatened by IRD officers and
with losing their jobs. In New York the United Nations 1997 meeting,
the most corrupt Prime Minister of the decade is President Suharto and
second Dr Mahathir (Actually Dr Mahathir should take first place but
bribed the Indonesian to take honour of Number One.

There are Fifty thousand of your university students are not given
places in Malaysia but are good enough for places overseas resulting
in billion of dollars lost.The British and the Australians are
thinking how stupid.Your best students are sent overseas raising their
standards while as in most countries the best are kept in local
universities and the rejects sent overseas. A university student in
Hong Kong is much more prestigeous than any Australian counterpart.
You have been colonised by the British so long you cannot even educate
your own people. Look at Hong Kong or Singapore less than 5% study
overseas. All the money saved. Your country could save billions if
every student overseas is recalled to a local university, and at the
same time raising your own standards.

Your people are still without shoes, without land to farm, without
homes, bathing in rivers shitting in hole in the ground, without water
and electricity. Your cities are concrete jungles without greenery
and open spaces. Your KL is jammed with traffic. Yet you still keep
on building high rises. You should come down from the clouds and stop
daydreaming and firmly plant your feet in the ground. Your schools
are cramped 500 students to an acre and thousands of acres are given
free to some politician who leaves them idle. Your parks are being
taken by politicians to build shophouses and every cabinet minister is
a landgrabbing businessman who build roads only to their cronies’ land.

companies. They must have been educated in Harvard school of business
and obtained distintions? Or is it “you don’t know me you don’t do
business in Malaysia” law that applies. Billions of ringgit of
Employee’s Provident Funds and public Petonas funds are used to bail
out your sons who make losses investing in every venture you thought
you could make money. How unethical and corrupt.

Every one of your politicians are sitting on the boards of tens of
companies making thousands without any effort, lending their VIP names
to borrow millions from local banks without collateral. Now these have
become non performing loans. Now you want 20 millions Malaysian to
sacrifice for the folly of ONE man? Why not the fool resign and admit
he wasted and took most of the money. I could teach you how to put
your economy on tract but first you must apologize to the Jews and the
Malaysian people as well.

It was report in the USA today that a killer was about be given the lethal injections of death got a reprieved. The court postponed the death sentence because it was claimed by his attorney that the lethal injections would caused the criminal a lot of pain before he died.

I applauded MM's comments and I think he is absolulely right in saying that the Burmese generals would not rule Myanmar indefinately. Burmese soldiers were "ordered" to kill monks

London, Oct 4 : A Burmese army major has revealed that secret codes were issued ordering the military to shoot and kill protesting monks in Rangoon last week.

Major Hla Lin, who disobeyed the order and fled before protests began in the capital, claimed there were divisions within the military, and many officers were horrified at being forced to crush the protesting monks.

"I knew the plan to shoot and kill the monks. There were secret codes to start shooting. If I had stayed on I would have to follow these orders," said Major Hla Lin. "I am a Buddhist and I did not want to carry out these orders."

Speaking from his refuge on the Thai border, he said that there are many other officers like him who are "deeply unhappy."

"The problem is they are of afraid of (dictator) Than Shwe. He is very cruel," the Telegraph quoted him as saying.

The junta has waged psychological warfare against the people in Rangoon, as thousands of people, especially monks, remained unaccounted for.

Before dawn, trucks with loudspeakers drove through the streets announcing, "We have photographs. We are going to make arrests!" - a threat to anyone who attended last week's marches, the daily reported.

Meanwhile, the acting US Ambassador in Myanmar, Shari Villarosa said that people in Yangon were terrified.

"From what we understand, military police are traveling around the city in the middle of the night, going into homes and picking up people," the Sun quoted her as saying.

Villarosa added that embassy staff had gone to some monasteries in recent days, and found them completely empty. Others were barricaded by the military and declared off-limits to outsiders.

Dissident groups believe 200 people were killed in the initial clampdown last week, and 6000 people have been imprisoned so far.

There were reports of more arrests after the deadliest crackdown on the innocent Burmese and monks whose crime was the staging of a peaceful protest against the rising cost of fuel. These improvised people could not face the rising cost of living and in protesting against it, was brutally beaten up and many were killed by the army.
The whole world is standing by,full of rhetoric but did nothing to prevent the shedding of the innocent blood.
Asean is one of them and what a shame to even allow Myanmar to be its member.
USA is also on the sideline with the rest of the world,doing nothing while innocent monks and the Burmese people are being arrested,beaten and murdered.
Some countries which strongly believe in democracy should teach the Myanmar military junta a lesson by invading it and freeing its people.

We,in the free world just could not understand how the people of Myanmar (Burma) is suffering under the military junta's rule of their country.
The recent barbaric suppression of the Burmese people by their own military contradicts the teachings of Buddha.The generals as well as the army personnel are believed to be Buddhists.
One cannot understand why the military is used to murder its own people? Isn't the military is used for the defence of the country against outside aggression? But here in Myanmar, it is used as a death machine against its own people...Burmese killing Burmese on their own soil for the interest of a few generals who would do anything to just cling on to unpopular power.
The monks and the people of Myanmar were defenseless and unarmed and were easy meat for the Burmese army.

The Burmese people needs the outside world to help them free themselves off the tyrannical rule of the generals.

Blogs and websites such as Malaysia Today have become popular arenas for political debate

A prominent Malaysian blogger has been summoned by the police for questioning over allegedly seditious remarks about Islam and the king.

The summons for Raja Petra Kamarudin, who runs the Malaysia Today website, comes amid warnings from a senior government minister that "irresponsible" bloggers could face imprisonment without trial.

His questioning on Wednesday follows allegations earlier this week from a senior member of the ruling UMNO party that a posting on Malaysia Today had mocked Islam and threatened racial harmony.

A bulletin on the website said he was being questioned at a police station in central Kuala Lumpur.

Raja Petra is well-known for his critical comments of the government and discourses on Malay rights and Islam

He has said he was only against the behaviour of some Muslims, and not Islam itself.

Malaysia Today, which promotes itself as an "independent news" source, also posts articles by other bloggers and is one of the country's most popular political discussion websites.

On Tuesday Malaysia's de facto law minister, Mohd Nazri Aziz, warned that it was "time to act" against what the government considers to be irresponsible or inflamatory blogging.

Speaking in Malaysia's parliament he said preventive detention laws could be used against bloggers who raise issues the government considers as being sensitive to Malaysia's multi-ethnic, multi-religious population.

His comments were echoed by Najib Abdul Razak, the Malaysian deputy prime minister, who told a gathering of the Malaysian Press Institute on Tuesday evening that the government was deeply troubled by the growth of what he called "irresponsible" alternative media.

He said bloggers needed to exercise moderation in postings which discuss race and religion or risk official action.

Webmasters and web journalists, he said, are not exempted from Malaysian laws.

"In the name of freedom, these websites allow the broadcast of slander, lies and swearing, the use of harsh, degrading language and racial slurs without regard for the reader or those concerned," the New Straits Times quoted him as saying.

"Even though the government has been tolerant of anti-government positions and criticisms on the Internet, we are very concerned about statements that insult religion and reek of racism," he added.

The warning comes amid increasingly frank discussions on the internet of such hot-topic issues as Malaysia's status as an Islamic state, allegedly unjust policies and political corruption.

Crackdown

Malaysian blogs and online political debates have garnered a steady following in recent years, mainly for their open discourses on politically-sensitive topics.

Until now websites have not been subject to the same government legal and administrative controls faced by the mainstream media.

But in recent months several senior government officials have called for tougher action, including new legislation to rein in those who they say belittle Islam or are seen as sowing the seeds of discord.

Late last week, a webmaster with an opposition party was detained for investigations over an alleged breach of the Official Secrets Act.

Nathaniel Tan, who works for Keadilan, the opposition party led by former deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim, was released after four days without any charge.

To many in the Malaysian blogosphere, the two events signal an imminent crackdown on websites and blogs critical of the government.

But not all in government are in favour of silencing critical discourse.

On Tuesday a senior leader of Gerakan, a partner in the Barisan Nasional ruling coalition, urged the government to stop trying to muzzle dissent.

Toh Kin Woon said the government should stop going after bloggers and could not promote national development by ignoring human rights.

He was quoted in the New Straits Times as saying: "Civil and political rights such as the right to free speech, dissent and assembly are as important as economic rights such as the right to a job, housing, medical care and education."

Sleepy BA pilot refuses to fly

A British Airways flight from Delhi was delayed by 13 hours on Sunday after the pilots and the rest of the cabin crew reportedly refused to fly due to inadequate sleep.

Scheduled to take off from the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi at 2.30 am on Sunday, the British Airways (BA) flight with 285 passengers, was held up and the takeoff finally re-scheduled for 3.15 pm. It took off five minutes later.

Apologising to the passengers for the delay, the BA officials said that such a step was taken keeping their safety in mind.

“It was not just the pilot but the entire cabin crew which was suffering from lack of sleep. This was due to some disturbance at night in the hotel they were putting up in. Had it been only the pilot, we could have still managed to take off because we can handle such a case between the first officer and the captain. But it was the entire cabin crew which was tired,” Radhika, the official spokesperson of BA, Delhi, said.

“Hence British Airways did not take the risk and delayed the flight by 13 hours,” she said, adding that 12 hours is the minimum time needed to recuperate.

Radhika added, “We will take up the matter with the hotel authorities since the disturbances there cost us the delay,” she said. However, while the airlines cited lack of sleep, according to sources there could be other reasons as well.

Thu, 15 Dec 2005 -- you would have read about a female
humpback whale who had become entangled in a spider
web of crab traps and lines. She was weighted down by
100s of pounds of traps that caused her to struggle to stay
afloat. She had 100s of yards of line (rope) wrapped
around her body - her tail, her torso, a line tugging in her mouth.

A fisherman spotted her just east of the Farralone Islands
(outside the Golden Gate) and radioed an environmental
group for help. Within a few hours the rescue team arrived
and determined that she was so bad off, the only way to save
her was to dive in and untangle her - a very dangerous
proposition; One slap of the tail could kill a few rescuers.
They worked for hours with curved knives and eventually
freed her. When she was free, the divers say she swam in
what seemed like joyous circles. She then came back to each
and every diver, one at a time, and nudged them, pushed them
gently around - she thanked them... some say it was the most
incredibly beautiful experience of their lives. The guy who
cut the rope out of her mouth says her eye was following
him the whole time, and he will never be the same.

The voice-over at the end is Garrison Keillor. When the ad was shown to Honda executives, they liked it and commented on how
amazing computer graphics have got.

Last month a B737 had a mid air collision with a Embraer Legacy while cruising at 35,000 feet over South America.
The Embraer Legacy, though seriously damaged, with the winglet ripped off, managed to make a landing at a nearby airstrip in the midst of the Amazon jungle. The crew and passengers of the Embraer Legacy had no idea what they had hit.
The B737, however,crashed killing all crew and passengers on board. The two photos above were apparently taken by one of the passengers in the B737, after the collision and before the aircraft crashed.The photos were retrieved from the camera's memory stick. You will never get to see photos like this.
In the first photo there is a gaping hole in the fuselage through which you can see the tailplane and vertical fin of the aircraft.
In the second photo one of the passengers is being sucked out of the gaping hole. INCREDIBLE. AMAZING.

A technology blogger attempting to fool people into believing he had exclusive pictures of the final fatal moments of the Gol Linhas Aéreas Boeing 737-800 that crashed into the Amazon jungle in September has been exposed by eagle-eyed aviation experts.The Boh Tong blog, which covers a diverse range of topics including "flying, cars, handphones" and the Malay salad dish rojak, posted "impressive photos" of the final moments inside the cabin of the 737-800, which suffered a mid-air collision with an Embraer Legacy 600 business jet, killing all 154 passengers and crew on board. Tong claims the photos (below) were taken by one of the passengers in the 737, after the collision and that the photos were retrieved from the camera's memory stick by Brazilian military accident investigators. "In the first photo there is a gaping hole in the fuselage through which you can see the tailplane and vertical fin of the aircraft," says Tong. "In the second photo one of the passengers is being sucked out of the gaping hole," Tong continues.

However, the pictures were quickly revealed as fakes, having been taken from the hit US ABC television show Lost. A post to the blog points out that the interiors of the Gol aircraft had different design to the one pictured.The pictures have been exposed previously on Hoax Slayer, a site dedicated to exposing internet myths. Tong apologised for posting the hoax pictures. It is not the first time Tong has courted controversy as his main blogging activity is revealing the seamier side of his previous career; a senior steward with Singapore Airlines, a choice of topic that has drawn criticism in the city state.

Commentary: The mid air collision discussed in this email forward really did happen. In September 2006, a collision occurred between a Gol Airlines 737 and an Embraer Legacy business jet over the Amazon in South America. The 737 crashed into the jungle with the loss of all passengers and crew. Although damaged, the smaller jet was able to continue to a nearby airport and land safely without injuries to those on board.However, the photographs that travel with this email do not depict the doomed Gol Airlines 737 and the cover story about a recovered digital camera memory stick is untrue. The images are taken from an air crash sequence featured in the popular television series, Lost. Fans of the drama series will quickly recognize the woman using the oxygen mask in the left of the pictures as "Kate" (Evangeline Lilly), one of Lost's pivotal characters. The slumped figure beside her is "Edward Mars" (Fredric Lehne) the U.S. Marshal who was escorting Kate back to the United States as his prisoner. Kate's status as a prisoner is shown by her handcuffs, which are clearly visible in the images. Virtually identical images of Kate and the Marshal during the crash sequence can be seen in this Lost promotional video and elsewhere on the Internet: Unlike many such hoaxes, the origin of this one can be clearly identified. The hoax was launched by Mr. Carlos Cardoso, a Brazilian Blogger who posted the story on his blog on 26th October 2006. In a followup post, Cardoso explains that he added the fake story to prove how people often only read the first part of a text and are apt to believe such stories in spite of obvious clues that they are untrue. He has certainly proved his point. Although Cardoso included a link in his original post to an article explaining that the entry was a hoax, the story escaped into Cyberspace and began circulating via email and other means.The fake story has now spread around the world. Many recipients have apparently forwarded the message in the mistaken belief that the images are genuine photographs of the Brazilian air collision disaster. Unfortunately, the message is likely to continue circulating and duping readers for months or even years to come.

ASIJ is American School in Japan, for the children of diplomats and business people. Some military kids went there too, I think, but they had schools of their own near their bases. The girls boarding school I went to was called Anokia, in Sierra Madre, CA, not far from Pasadena. It was the former estate of Lucky Baldwin, one of the Santa Anita Racetrack people. The girl I gave the record to was a freshman and I was a sophomore. I think it was toward the end of the year that she asked to take the record home for the weekend. Troy Donahue's sister, Eve Johnson, and Mary Pickford's niece were also students there but they were seniors and doubtful that they knew her. Edie Adam's daughter was in my grade.

My dad flew for Japan Airlines. He was there, among others, teaching the Japanese to fly. He was one of the original barnstormers, built his own plane when he was 17 and taught his shop instructors to fly out of Clover Field, now Santa Monica Airport. He flew until he was 91. He thought very highly of Japan Airlines, said it was one of the best ever. I was sad to learn that Sakamoto was killed in a JAL crash.

I loved Japan from my first day there. The people were very friendly to me and all of them eager to take me everywhere and show me everything. Everything I saw in our little town was awesome to my eyes. My friends wanted me to read the signs so one gave me lessons on Katakana, which are the symbols they use for writing foreign words. Later in my life I used the English part of the chart to teach my 4 year old daughter to read, except I plugged in English vowel sounds. Years later when I became a teacher - specializing in beginning reading and writing - I used the same to teach my students.

A friend and I occasionally went to Japanese movies, bought a pack of dried squid to chew on and tried to figure out what was going on. That's when I heard Kyu's song: He sang it in one of his movies. All of these years I have never given it much of a thought until last month when it occurred to me that it may have helped Japan get accepted more in America.

My First Class of Trainees.

I can still fondly recalled the first batch of stewardess trainees I taught. That was way back in the 1970s at the Paya Lebar Airport.
Having flown as a crew for less than 10 years,I was promoted to the position of a Training Check Personnel (TCP) at age 30.
At 30, I was one of the youngest TCPs. Most of my seniors were around 35 to 40 years of age.
My stewardess trainees average age was 20 years and the stewards were about 25.
The first batch of trainees were girls from Singapore.They were young and mostly 'O' level holders. All together,there were 25 of them in the class.
Most of them were young green horns but there were gorgeous. There were a few Indians and Malay girls in the batch too.
On the first few days,before their grooming course, you could see these girls with very little make-ups.They were dressed like school girls,knowing not much about fashion and were simpletons. Yet, in their innocence and naivety, you could see that they were indeed very pretty and sweet. They were like raw diamonds waiting to be polished.
SIA employed these sweet young things (SYT) as we called them and successfully changed them from simple,sweet schoolgirl-liked to elegant and sophisticated ladies who would be fit to dine at Buckingham Palace.
The trainees would undergo a rigorous 4 month training course.Those who don't make it would be dismissed.
There was no such thing as bonds in those days. No trainees would want to quit halfway through their training or probation of another 6 months,boys and girls alike.
They were tough and 99% of them were able to make it through.
The bond thing came only in the 1990s when the trainees became soft and weak. 30 plus percent would quit after the first few solo flights. They couldn't stand the work and peer pressure and resigned at the slightest thing.
Those stewardesses in the 1970s and 1980s were the ones who actually built up the famous SIA Girl image.....to be continued.

The Pilot Who Foolishly Killed Himself

Bert was the quiet and reserved sort of person. He rarely mixed around much with his colleagues.
He had a lovely stewardess girlfriend but he was a married man whose family lived in New Zealand.
Bert's affair with the stewardess went on for almost a year. They lived in opposite blocks of flats facing each other.
One day,when his girlfriend decided to leave him,Bert phoned her and asked her to appear at her bedroom window facing his flat.
The girl did what Bert instructed her. To her horror, Bert jumped down from his 12 storey flat right in front of his girlfriend's eyes.

Brian loved motorbikes and the last one he owned was a Suzuki. He didn't have much savings like his colleagues in SIA. He gambled away most of his money.
During his days off from flight, he would bring Fatimah his stewardess g/f for long bike rides on his old Suzuki. It wasn't always comfortable for the pillion rider because the seat was partially worn off and the engine was noisy.
One day when Fatimah can't take it anymore,she used all her savings and bought Brian a brand new Harley Davidson, an awesome looking bike. Harley Davidson is the Mercedes of motorbikes. It would probably had cost Fatimah $35,000 for the HD.
It was a few weeks after the purchase of the HD that photos of Brian and another girl riding the HD was posted to Fatimah. The shots showed the girl hugging and kissing Brian. They were more than friends by their behavior seen on the photos.
Fatimah confronted Brian and he admitted he was in love with Elaine,the stewardess in the photos.
Fatimah was broken hearted and disappointed with Brain who had cheated on her all these whiles. She demanded the 35 k which she paid for the HD. Brain refused. They had a fight over the matter and finally Fatimah brought the matter to the office.
Fearing it would a be a scandal which might affect his chances of a promotion, Brian compromised with Fatimah and paid her by installments over a two year period.
However, the installments were never paid back in full. Brain and Elaine were killed in an accident while riding in Malaysia.

The Trainee Steward Who ........

It was one of those things,if an employee lied in his job application details and if discovered later on,the said employee would be fired!
This was an example of a case in cabin crew.
Mark was undergoing his training as a steward, when HR department discovered he lied in his filling up his application forms. He did not declare he was convicted of a crime when he was a young teenager. He was convicted of taking drugs.
Now at age 25, Mark was fully rehabilitated and never thought of taking drugs.
All he wanted was to excel as a steward with SIA. He topped the class and was a young man with pleasant personality.
Mark was summoned to the Director of Cabin Crew office,one afternoon,during his training.He had shocking news. He was sacked because he had lied in his job application.
Being sad was an understatement. Mark was severely depressed over the next few days.
His instructor appealed on his behalf but to no avail.

Katherine was a tall and no-nonsense looking leading stewardess. She looked better whenever she flashed that wide smile across her face.
If one were to know her background,one would understand the reasons for Kat being such a spoilt brat.
Before joining SIA,Kat used to have a boyfriend by the name of Eric. He was a professional horse punter,making as much as $1 million a weekend, on horse racing and this was in the 1980s.
Kat was treated like a celebrity wherever she went with Eric.
The horse racing fraternity respected Eric,including the underworld who depended on his horse tips.
Those who were closely associated with Eric prospered,including his girlfriend,Kat.
Eric showered Kat with cash,Rolex watches,diamond rings,cars and beautiful apartments.
The only thing lacking, as far as Kat was concerned, was time spent with Eric. He was always busy with his 'business' associates and spent long hours away from Kat.
He would often travelled to Malaysia to arrange and plan his oncoming weekend races during the weekdays.
On weekends, he would be extremely busy punting on horses with his syndicate colleagues.
Kat was a teenager at the time she was with Eric. She, being young, loved dancing,bowling, karaoke, fashion and all the things a teenager would
loved doing.
Kat was a very demanding person and often,Eric would give in to her.
She would very frequently disrupt Eric's business schedule by nagging him into taking her on holidays overseas.
Kat's frequent nagging and fights with Eric eventually cost him his downfall.
Eric began losing control over his syndicate and suffered big losses at races.
As expected, Eric lost everything that he had,including Kat.

Kat broke off with Eric and joined SIA as a flight stewardess. She worked hard and earned her promotion as a leading stewardess in less than five years.
During her flying days, Kat gambled high stakes at casinos overseas. She loved Blackjacks and Baccarat.
Kat would wager anything from US$1,000 to $50,000 per bet,over 10 to 24 hours at a stretch at casinos in London, Melbourne,Sydney and Las Vegas.
Kat was a high roller like Suwah.
Whenever, Kat night stopped in LA,she would take the South West 45 minutes flight to Las Vegas and stayed at Caesar's Palace. There ,she would gambled until the night before her flight back to Tokyo.
Her turnover at the gambling table per night would easily be around US$500,000.

At the end of her flying contract with SIA, she joined a security company in Singapore as a reminsier.
Kat brought in multi millionaire clients to the company. They were mostly the Datoks and Tan Sris from Malaysia and they punted real big ,often to the tune of ten of millions of dollars.
When the financial crisis hit Asia in the mid 1990s, most of Kat's wealthy clients went bankrupt.
Kat was stuck with huge debts and was sacked by her company.
That was,it seems the last we would have heard of Kat.

It wasn't long before I read in the newspaper that Kat had a big fight with her boyfriend.
The police was called in to settle the domestic quarrel.
Unfortunately, Kat was so mad with the police interference that she kicked and hit a police officer.
Kat was charged with causing hurt to a police officer and was sent to prison.
At the time of serving her sentence,Kat gave birth to a baby whose father is anyone guess

However,behind that lovely and feminine smile, was a girl with a compulsion for gambling.

She made and lost a bundle through punting on horses. Her jockey boyfriend gave her tips but it didn't do her any good most of the time.
Then Su ditched her jockey boyfriend and got involved with an elderly business man,John.
John was filthy rich and made his money through his spice trading companies,inherited from his late father.
Su was with John for a few years. She would have scrounged at least $5 millions from him in those few years. But that did not make Su rich. She lost all that she got from John through gambling.
Su gambled from Genting to London, Monaco and Las Vegas.
She was a high roller with all the casinos.
When The Bellagio,New Aladdin and other mega casinos in Las Vegas opened for business,Su was invited as a VIP guest,with all expenses paid for by the hotels.The hotels loved her. Who wouldn't anyway?
One can imagine,the millions Su had donated to these casinos.
She went into debts,yes heavy debts and by this time,John had enough of her nonsense and they broke up. Around this period,Su's contract with SIA had terminated.
Remorseful over what she had done, Su went and helped out in charities.
Here,she fell in love with Alex, a former drug addict who had also turned over a new leaf.
Alex is a talented gospel song singer and together, they made recordings of songs and sell them to help the charities.
They were married last year.

Captain Lim?

Someone asked me whether I know a Captain Lim recently. This Captain Lim has a blog of his own.
Well as far as I know, that Captain Lim is not from Singapore Airlines (SIA).
There are many Captain Lims in SQ but none of them has a blog,as far as I know.
Some of the readers are still not convinced I was from SIA. Well, tell me what is the use of me lying?
For the time being,at least, I don't want to expose myself as my ex-employer isn't happy with some of the articles I had posted.
SIA, in its email to me expressed appreciation for my 35 years of loyal service and at the same time demanded that I remove all images and logos of the company from my website. They told me my articles do not represent their views.
So, I complied albeit reluctantly.
Now, I believe they would go to any length to stop me from publishing more articles concerning the company.
I do hope our readers understand my situation.

On a lighter note:
Who knows maybe I am Captain Lim Goh Tong..oops I mean Boh Tong..hehehe.
( Btw is it true Lim Goh Tong is the big boss of Genting Casino,anyone)?

Whenever we stopped at London,there were many interesting things we could spend our time on. The stops were usually 2 to 3 days at the London Gloucester Hotel,next to Gloucester Station.
The average meal and nightstop allowances per day in London would be about $150 to $190 per crew,depending on the rank. The hotel charged about 100 pds or $300 per room a day (50% discount) and this was being paid by SIA.
The crew usually spend their time shopping at Oxford St., eating their favorite Chinese food at the Queensway/Bayswater, drinking English Beer and Stouts at the pubs, gambling at the casinos , punting on horses and dogs at Ladbrooke,William Hill etc.
However, for steward Ali, he preferred to be alone,roaming the streets around Piccadilly Circus,waiting to be picked up by handsome homosexual white men.
On this particular trip, Ali didn't have to wait long before he was approached by Victor the macho English homo.
Ali bought dinner for himself and Victor at a steak house and downed two bottles of Beaujolais.
After dinner, they proceeded to Gloucester Hotel. When they arrived at Ali's room, they started to drink Chivas Regal which was stolen from the aircraft bar.
By the time Ali and Victor had finished the bottle of free Chivas,they were both pissed like hell.
The next morning when Ali woke up, he discovered his new-found friend had disappeared from the room. Gone too was Ali's wallet which contained cash and his credit cards.
When Ali checked out of the hotel,he was shocked when the receptionist presented him with a 50 pound long distance telephone bill.

Kelvin,The Gay Chief Steward.

Kelvin was a handsome young Chief Steward with SIA. He was always kind and gentle,well groomed and friendly. He was an asset to the cabin crew division.
In the 1990s, when you flew with SIA,you would probably seen Kelvin on the airplanes' movie screens. He was the Chief Steward demonstrating and showing you how to use the emergency equipments before the airplanes took off.
Behind that soft-spoken and friendly looks, was a man with wild sexual imaginations. Yes,wild with his imaginations and reckless with his sex life. He was a gay and had Caucasian boyfriends.
One day, Kelvin was downed with a bad Flu. He became weak and unable to work as the sickness sapped the life out of him. He couldn't recover even with the best medical care.
It wasn't long before he was diagnosed with having AIDs and was warded in a hospital.
His gay colleagues and friends took turns to look after him after he left the hospital. It was amazing how they cared for him,feeding him,sleeping and watching him 24/7. They even cleaned up his stools.
Most of the gays were very close and protective of each other. They were sincere and genuine with their friends. They were nicknamed 'sisters' in the airline.
Kelvin knew his end was near and so he requested that he be driven in a Rolls to watch the lights of Orchard Road on Christmas eve before his departure.
His friends was unable to get hold of a Rolls.They managed to get him a Mercedes 280s and brought him on a night tour of Orchard Road on the Christmas eve of 1998.
In early 1999,Kevin passed away.

The aircraft was taxing half way to the runway when a passenger stood up on his seat and started shouting. He refused to sit down even when the crew pleaded with him.
There was not much time to play around.The captain had to decide within the next minute whether to proceed to the runway or turn back.
The captain made an announcement telling the other passengers of his predicament.
That troublemaker was shouting and still refusing to sit down.
Then, a big tall passenger and one who looked like a wrestler went straight to the guy and punched him in his stomach. That fellow fell forward and the big guy pushed him to his seat and fastened his seat belts.
There was silence in the cabin except for the roaring sound of the B747.
In the next few minutes, the plane took off and there was no more trouble from that passenger for the next 14 hours.

The Message that changed many crew.....

I can still recall in 1978,there was a huge Christian revival in cabin crew. The message of William Branham, an American Evangelist, swept through SIA cabin crew division like wild fire. More than 100 crew were converted as a result.
The amazing thing was, William Branham's message could dramatically changed the lives of many crew whom we thought were incorrigible.
Drunkards, smokers, gamblers,rascals were converted.
The New Nation, an afternoon paper in Singapore , had an article on it. New Nation claimed that their HQ was in Rotterdam.
Some crew told the press that it was a cult while others claimed it was a religion good for those bad crew.
The Director of cabin crew conducted an investigation into the so called cult but found nothing wrong with it. He even went further to state that it was good to have such converts flying around than those unconverted unrepented drunkards,smokers,womanisers etc.
Many of the converts left the airline especially the stewardesses.
Today,there are only a few of these converted crew left in SIA.

SIA Crew Stay in 5 Star Hotels but......

Most of the hotels where crew stay during their layovers are 5 star hotels.SIA spend close to a $100m (correct me if I am wrong,SIA) a year on crew hotels.
Some of the crew do not appreciate the generosity of the company. When they lose that privilege,it would then be too late. They would be put up at lesser known and not so comfortable hotels.
SIA let each crew have their own room,even the most junior ones. Some airlines make their cabin crew share room. Only married couple crew in SIA share room.However, if the married couple opt not to fly together,they will also be allocated a room each during their nightstops.
Why do I bring up this subject of hotel accommodation? Well it is because like I said earlier,there are crew who do not appreciate this fine gesture on the part of SIA.
In the past, we had crew who 'souvenired' towels,pillow cases,bulbs, and even curtains etc. from hotels they stayed. I had complaints from hotels about crew dirtying and littering their rooms with all sorts of things,ranging from cigarette butts to unfinished instant noodles and curry stains on the walls.
There were crew who overfilled their bathtubs and flooded hotel floors.
There were cases of crew using the hotel ovens to dry their running shoes. Some even went to the extent of bringing their home laundry to wash them in the hotel washing machines.( Certain places like New Zealand,crew were put up in luxurious apartments)
There was a case in Auckland, where a room was burned due to an electrical fire caused by a short circuit. The crew had left his TV on for 2 days when he was on a sightseeing tour.
In Tokyo, we used to stay in the plush Prince Takanawa Hotel. The crew stole hundreds of goldplated tea spoons and tea sets from the hotel rooms over a period of time.
The staff at Prince Takanawa nicknamed the supervisors as Ali Baba and the other crew as SIA thieves.
When the hotel had enough of our nonsense, they politely doubled the room rates, once the old contract period was over. Thats the Japanese way of saying Sayonara to us.
I can just go on and on but until the crew stop this type of behaviour,there is no guarantee that prime hotels in places where crew nightstop would welcome them.

It was reported in a major airline survey carried out recently that SIIA's standard of inflight service has improved tremendously. Its is now no.1 beating its other well known Asian rivals carriers like CX,TG and SQ.
SIIA's success, according to its CEO,Mr. Chew Dog Bone was mainly due to its employment of the SIA's ex-CCEs.
These CCEs,numbering 15 joined SIIA in 2004 and swore they will put in all their years of experience to help SIIA be the no.1 airlines in terms of inflight service.
This is a case of one airline's loss and another airline's gain.As Lee loccoca puts it,"Revenge is sweetest when you join a competitor and make it much more competitive", when he was fired from Ford Motors and became CEO of Chrysler Corp.
